I was in the ophthalmologist's office yesterday and was told that in the near future the silocone oil holding my left retina flat will need to be replaced because the oil I currently have has been in for more than a decade.

I'm kind of worried because the risks in any eye surgery are very high and being that my right eye is already lost I don't want to jeopardize the little sight I have. The ophthos assure me that the procedure is simple and safe but still...I could never trust anyone especially with my sight, no matter how steady-handed they might be.

But I was wondering if anybody on this board has ever dealt with this so-called minor surgical procedure. Does the silocone oil have to be replaced with new even if the oil in my eye isn't causing any discomfort?

I just had the surgery and everything turned out fine, no complications, no infection so far, nothing! I can't see anything though (lol), the doctor said it'll be a few days, possibly a month, until my vision clears up. Just thought I'd mention it, even though I know nobody gives a damn. lol

Hey, I give a damn. I'm glad surgery went well. I have a co-worker who has had this type of thing done and it did take time for her vision to come back after the procedure. So hang in there.

I think lots of us give a damn.

I'm glad the surgery seems to have worked out.

I think maybe more people would respond if you had remembered to write something in the subject line. If you don't do that, the word "boards" just appears there, and it doesn't give people a clue what your post is about.

Take care.

Um what's the boards thing all about? Did you just write that in the subject line or something?

Yeah medical queen, I thought surfer dudes would know something about the silicone oil in my eye and thought they'd look at my post if I titled it boards. But thanks Bob and Becky for your support, I nearly cried when I read your posts but had to restrain myself because the tears would probably cause serious damage.

glad to hear that you're okay If there isn't a title where the name of the new message board should be, the word Boards appears automatically.
